Focuss.Info™ Initiative

What is Focuss.Info?

Richard Lalleman (Focuss.Info coordinator)

The Focuss.Info Initiative is a platform aimed at, and maintained by partner organizations, librarians as well as students, researchers and individual practitioners working in the field of global development cooperation, research and education (see 'Who is Focuss'). Together, these parties are enhancing the visibility and accessibility of valuable electronic resources (such as websites, electronic journal articles, and presentations) in the field of global development cooperation.

How do partners of Focuss.Info make the valuable e-resources visible?

Richard Lalleman (Focuss.Info coordinator)

The partners of Focuss.Info store their selected valuable e-resources in a dedicated social bookmark space (such as through delicious.com or citeulike.org). By setting up a social bookmark account, the partners save and categorize their personal collection of bookmarks and share these with Focuss.Info. After that, these personal collections are being indexed by a domain-specific search engine: the Focuss.Info search engine. Consequently, hand-picked e-resources are being automatically shared in a specific knowledge domain by making these e-resources easily and full text accessible.

WOW!

Richard Lalleman (Focuss.Info coordinator)

Yes, Focuss.Info provides information professionals, students, researchers and practitioners from the southern and northern hemispheres a high quality resource discovery on global development cooperation by means of a domain specific research tool. This research tool:

  • focuses on state of the art technology that is freely-available around the globe;
  • builds on traditional collection development for an interdisciplinary domain;
  • combines the strength of librarians, practitioners, students and researchers;
  • draws on forces from academia and NGOs, and;
  • focuses on collaboration rather than on technology development

How can I join and participate in this collaboration?

Richard Lalleman (Focuss.Info coordinator)

Go to delicious.com or another social bookmark platform of your preference, like citeulike.org, and create a social bookmark account by signing in. After that, send the coordinators of Focuss.Info an e-mail (ask [at] focuss [dot] info) and tell us where to find your social bookmark account on the WorldWideWeb.
