Focuss.Info is a collaborative platform supported by more than 40 global, national and regional institutions and more than 30 individuals who are all promoting the newest Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills in the domain of global development research and studies.
It first started as a platform where people collaboratively saved their favourite e-resources in social bookmark platform such as Delicious.com and CiteULike.org. This meant that not only librarians, but also individual practitioners, students and researchers within the global development domain saved their valuable e-resources on the Internet. Consequently, Focuss.Info indexed these collections of e-resources in its own customised search engine and, as a result, valuable information in global development studies and researches is better visible and accessible.
Social bookmarking is still an important information sharing and collaboration tool for our field and therefore the promotion of social bookmarking will remain as the back-bone of the Focuss.Info Initiative. However, it is often a combination of the newest ICT skills and tools - also known as the social web technologies - that let us create, share and save the latest information and knowledge in our field. Therefore, the Focuss.Info Initiative coordinates the work of workshop facilitators from Africa, Asia or South America who promote the newest ICT skills in order to improve the access to information and knowledge. In addition, Focuss.Info gives the workshop facilitators space to document their workshops and virtually exchange thoughts with the workshop participants or other colleagues from all over the world. Therefore, the objective of Focuss is to make sure that around 80 % of the participants of each workshop will actively start social bookmarking their valuable e-resources in the domain of global development cooperation. As a result, Focuss will create a collection of valuable e-resources in the field of global development cooperation which will be full-text retrievable through the search engine on top of the screen.
