Lessons learning of Bangladesh Workshop

The face to face and online workshops with e-leaning were a new approach of extended learning for innovative and easy education with visual information and presentations.
Although the participants had skilled on internet and social media, but had not clean concept on social bookmaking and its power of sharing. The participants were educated and innovated step by step video screening, objective explanations and practical sessions.
The Venue University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh was well equipped with WiFi internet connection and computer for each participant. As a result 26 participants accumulated instead of 20 number target attendees.
Along with online circular a promotional poster with 1000 copies has been published which were countrywide distributed through NGOs, human rights and volunteer organizations. However printed invitation letters also were send to 70 prominent NGOs, library, media, human rights and research organizations of Bangladesh.
In order to official presentation with dignity, the banner, name tags, folder, documents, presentation were created by following event’s unique branding, slogan and motif which was appreciated by audience and link organizations peoples.
The training program was continuing for a week from 29 July to 05 August 2011 that covers two F2F (face to face) workshops and one online workshop. The three days F2F workshop was slotted into two with a online workshop ( 01-04 August 2011 ). In the online workshop the training was done by using ICTs the ‘e-learning’ as extended learning initiatives. The extended learning process was appreciated by the participants. Along with face to face learning, the facilitator shared knowledge and skill by Mobile
Phone, Skype, Facebook group, Social Networking and E-mail conversation. First F2F daylong workshop was held on 29 and 30 July, 2011. Following the four daylong online workshop 2nd F2F workshop was held on 05 August, 2011 in which sessions were live webcast
The first F2F workshop was started by the presentation of Dr. Jude Genilo. “An Introduction to Digital Inclusion and Community Informatics” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqJ8GfA0mkk ) was the title of
Dr. Jude’s presentation. He shared the Bangladesh and the Philippines’ experiences on social media development, community involvement and a number of ICT4D projects details. In the day facilitator Shahjahan Siraj presented the theme presentation with a series of learning videos and explanations. In the step by step leaning sessions, Siraj screened videos and facilitated participatory discussion with his theme presentation. By getting easy tips, explanations and interactions, in the end of day the participants get clear idea on Newmedia, Internet, Social Media and Social Bookmaking.
In the second day sessions, the practical learning was focused. In morning session, Dr. Brian Shoesmith from Australia shared his social media experiences under the topic ‘Social Media Culture: Contemporary Practices in Bangladesh and Australia’ ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWJ7N9B8FmU& ).
Following the session of Dr. Brain, each participant made their own blog and post text, photo and video content with instruction and guide of the facilitator ‘Shahjahan Siraj’, however get clarification in direct question and answer’ session. After publishing the content the participants shared the content in their social networking site by creating and using their own IDs. However they practiced social bookmarking focus to Delicious.
To make easy the learning process, the sessions were divided as Text, Photo, Video, Audio, Slide and live publishing and sharing with using tips. The participants were inspired after make their ID in popular Social Networking sites, however watching the live video in the net. They were moved by experiencing the power of social media and sharing, however usages of social media for education and development beyond the entertainment approach. A number of video and photo galleries have been created on all important sessions as Fresh-bits video content. However all video have been published in the official blog via facilitator’s YouTube Channel ‘sirajdhaka’. The photos have been published in the Facebook group along with blog posting at official URL.
The total arrangements were coordinated by facilitator Shahjahan Siraj and Dr. Jude Genilo, Chairman of Media Studies and Journalism Department of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh ( ULAB). The logistic arrangements and documentations were done smoothly with the active involvement of the Machizo and ULAB stuffs. During workshop two times refreshment and hygienic launch with local cuisine were arranged for the attendees.
Within limited time-frame , the workshops covered a number of topics, new terminology and techniques. It was hard to cover all issues in details. The participants requested to arrange one more advanced training workshop with the more practical sessions. In the end the facilitator gives commitment to continue social media learning supports in whole life via online media and ICT. However the participants request to arrange learning workshop on creating quality local content focus to photography, videography and content management system.
